days – 13 nights
Day 1 & 2 -
Serengeti National Park, Tanzania.
Karibu & welcome to
East Africa !
You will be met on arrival
at Nairobi´s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport
& after clearing Immigration formalities, transferred
to Wilson Airport for the short flight to Kilimanjaro.
From here by air, a short scenic flight will have you
in the Serengeti National Park in Western Tanzania.
You have the choice of
staying at any one of these classic prestigious Safari
Camps for two nights.
• Kirawira Camp
• Governor´s Camp
• Kleins Camp
• Grumeti River Lodge.
Each provides all inclusive
stays with meals, beverages, twice daily interpretive
game drives hosted by a professional ranger & all
of the luxuries expected despite the remote wilderness
locations that they occupy.
Maasai warrior-trackers
accompany game drives adding their wealth of knowledge
not only in regard to animal & bird species, but
also that relating to plants & vegetation habitat
thereby adding to the experiences guests accumulate.
Day 3 & 4 -
Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area, Tanzania.
This morning after breakfast
you will be taken to the local airstrip for a short
light aircraft flight to Manyara airstrip & from
here, by road to Ngorongoro Crater.
Ngorongoro is truly one
of Africa´s gems. Once a billowing, ash and lava
spewing active volcanic cone, today long silent, Ngorongoro
Crater plays host to an abundance of animal, bird, reptile
& insect life drawn by the year round water supply,
lush grasses & relative safety provided by the many
micro-habitats encapsulated within its escarpment walls.
The views across the 20km
x 5 km wide crater are simply awesome & sunsets,
magical. More-so too, the game drive experiences are
likely to bring you close to a stunning array of big
game, including most of the predators, rare & endangered
black rhino, elephant, all manner of antelope species
& for bird watchers, a huge spectrum of aquatic
& free ranging migratory bird species.
Your choices for the two
nights accommodation here range from staying at Ngorongoro
Serena Lodge, the Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge or the world
renown.
Ngorongoro Crater Lodge,
which is top of the line in quality, service & excellence
of delivery.
Of the accommodation choices,
only Ngorongoro Crater Lodge is all-inclusive with expansive
menus, all beverages including alcohol & a myriad
of additional luxuries. Serena Lodge & Sopa lodge
provide meals and game drives but their tariffs do not
cover beverages or any extras and the accommodation
itself is comfortable, but modest by comparison. The
choice is your to make.
Each of these properties
is located with views stretching out & down into
the crater some 600m below the crest-line. It is certainly
much cooler at the Lodges than it is at crater floor
level as the lodges are at 1750m above sea level, so
a warm sweater or light jacket is advised for early
morning & night-time outdoor wear. Game drives are
an all day affair, departing early morning & descending
to the crater floor with an inclusive picnic lunch to
be taken at a spot chosen by the ranger – tracker
duo for its location & guest safety. Bring plenty
of camera film, binoculars, a good wide brimmed hat
& sunscreen. Other essential supplies will be carried
in the vehicle by your ranger who never leaves without
a bird guide book, water & an emergency first aid
kit etc. Each vehicle is equipped with onboard radio
communications to home base so in effect, it is always
in close contact if the need arises.
Day 5 &
6 - Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya.
After breakfast you will
be driven to the Manyara airstrip for a scheduled flight
to Kilimanjaro where you need to clear Tanzania Immigration
before the onward flight to Wilson Airport in Nairobi.
From here, departing westward by air to the Masai Mara
National Reserve where you will be met & transferred
by road to your choice of either Kichwa Tembo´s
Bateleur Camp or to Governor´s Camp – both
locations provide all-inclusive stays for the two nights
you are here.
You will explore
the vast plains of the Masai Mara on extensive morning
& afternoon interpretive game drives in an open
4 x 4 safari customized vehicle, hosted by a professional
ranger with a wealth of experience in the region.
Day 7 - Johannesburg
Departing the Masai Mara
by air after breakfast, it is first back to Nairobi,
then out from Jomo Kenyatta International airport non-stop
to Johannesburg, South Africa. Here on arrival &
after clearing Immigration formalities you will be met
& transferred by private car & driver to The
Emperor hotel, which for ease of the following days
departure, is located within 10 minutes of JNB International
airport.
The Emperor is part
of the Caesar´s Palace complex which includes
the casino, a wide range of restaurants both above ground
& on an underground level, shops & entertainment.
Your one night stay is on a bed & breakfast basis.
Day 8, 9 &
10 - Lion Sands Private Game Reserve – Sabi Sands
Departing after breakfast
by air to Mpumalanga-Kruger (MQP) airport on South African
Airways, British Airways (operated by Comair) or SAA
Express, you will be met by Lion Sands Private Game
Reserve staff & transferred to their private 3500
hectare concession which sits within an area known as
the Sabi Sands Game Reserve.
Here, the Lion Sands two
lodges are located under the shade of impressive hundred
year old Jackalberry trees & above the gurgling
waters of the Sabie River that separate the property
from the Kruger National Park. All meals, snacks, non-alcoholic
beverages & daily interpretive ranger – tracker
game drives are included during your stay.
Lion Sands provides an
outstanding, exemplary level of service & delivery
that is certainly not bettered in South Africa. Then
in addition, the game drive experience, especially as
unhindered free ranging of animals coming across the
river from the Kruger National Park onto Lion Sands
private concession lands makes for constantly changing
new animal sightings, is unequalled.
Lion Sands is conducting
a number of scientific studies covering both leopards
on the property & the resident lion pride which
will contribute a wealth of new knowledge to the overall
welfare of these species.
Quite aside from the two
daily interpretive game drives & daylight ranger
hosted bush walks which are part & parcel of a days
activities, a special experience available at Lion Sands
is a ranger-tracker guided moonlight bush walk –
something very different, carried out with guest security
uppermost in mind & sure to heighten your senses.
You have three days
to relax & unwind in this magnificent setting alongside
the Sabie River. Time to sit quietly in the specially
constructed ´hides´ by the river to observe
animals & birds drawn to drinking, time to have
a professional masseuse kneed those muscles & tissue
into sensory heaven or, to relax by the guest swimming
pool with a book or favourite beverage at hand.
Day 11, 12 &
13 - Cape Town – the Mother City
Departing Lion Sands after
breakfast by road you will be transferred to a local
airport & flown to Johannesburg, connecting to Cape
Town. On arrival you will be met & transferred in
a private vehicle to a city location hotel of your choosing,
for three nights accommodation on a bed & breakfast
basis.
Cape Town is undoubtedly
South Africa´s most picturesque city, with the
rugged Cape Peninsula separating the wild Atlantic from
the Indian Ocean & the ever present moody Table
Mountain, looming sentinel above the city.
Cape Town provides for
a mix of races, cultures, creeds & skills. It pulses
to the rhythm of the Victoria & Albert waterfront;
languishes to the steady surge of ocean currents that
come ashore on the white sand of Clifton & Camps
beaches & it breathes a heady magic from the hinterlands
of wine country & the imposing mountain passes that
give way to the famed Garden Route heading north along
the eastern cape towards Hermanus, Knysna & Port
Elizabeth.
Take a stunning scenic
trip to the top of Table Mountain on the cableway to
get the full 360 degree vistas from the far northern
mountain horizon, Table Bay Robbin Island, Cape Point
& Bantry Bay. Or, perhaps a day excursion that includes
the much vaunted Robbin Island prison where Nelson Mandela
was encarcerated for 18 long years. Still another choice
is a day out to the world renown wine estates surrounding
Franschhoek & Stellenbosch or a guided excursion
over the Four Passes . There is so much to do &
see in Cape Town & you have three days to accomplish
whatever it is that takes your desire.
Day 14 - Departure
As with all good things,
they come to an end 6 today, after breakfast, pack up
& check out of your hotel & you will be transferred
by private car to Cape Town airport for your onward
journey.
