This superb lodge is situated in a natural setting along the southern most boundary of Etosha National Park & in the privately owned Ongava Game Reserve.

Ongava therefore is an idyllic location from which international guests base their outdoor adventure & safari activities when visiting Etosha. Accommodation at Ongava comprises twelve (12) brick, rock, air-conditioned thatched roof chalets, each with its own private en-suite bathroom facilities.

Being that there are only 12 chalets, at any one time the absiolute maximum of guests at the lodge can not exceed 24 persons, so this is truly a boutique lodge experience.

Meals are either served in the main dining area under thatch with a view over the camp's water hole, or on the dining deck under the stars.

Daily safari activities include early morning & late afternoon game drives in open 4x4 vehicles into the Okaukuejo area of Etosha where lion, elephant, cheetah, gemsbok, springbok & hartebeest can be seen often at the many of the waterholes in the park.

In addition, the game hides & safari bush walks escorted by armed professional field guides are to enjoyed on the private reserve.

Ongava has resident white & black Rhino. The white rhino are far more placid whereas black rhino are either highly aggressive or flighty when they detect human presence.  Given that guests stay at Ongava a minimum of two nights at the very least, that sort of timeframe & the game species here provides the unique opportunity to see both of these charismatic prehistoric species.

Ongava Lodge was featured in the prestigious Condé Naste Traveller ´Gold Reserve´ list of award lodges in 2005.

Little Ongava, located in the 26000 hectare Ongava Private Game Reserve shares a common boundary with Etosha National Park. It is built nestld into the crest of a hill, offering stunning vistas, with uniterrupted views down onto the plains below.

Little Ongava's guest entertainment area lends itself to relaxed, sophisticated & stylish dining.

A kaleidoscope of wildlife can be seen at many of the water holes in the Park & the reserve is noted for being home to resident white & black rhino.  For its size & semi-arid harsh eco-environment, the Reserve rightly boasts a healthy predator population.

Discerning guests coming to Little Ongava will share a dedicated professional field guide which ensures optimum nature experiences here at one of Africa's  pristine wilderness destinations.

Ongava Tented Camp is also situated along the southern boundary of Etosha National Park within the 30000 hectares of privately owned Ongava Game Reserve.

This delightfully tasteful boutique tented camp is located in a different sector of the reserve to Ongava Safari Lodge.

The guest accommodation here comprises eight (8) large, spacious & very comfortable walk-in tents, each with private en-suite bathroom facilities, including flush toilet & a hot shower.

All meals are served in the thatched dining area overlooking an active waterhole which acts as a real draw card for animal, inset & bird species.

Safari activities include morning & late afternoon game drives in 4x4 vehicles into the Okaukuejo area of Etosha where resident lion prides, elephant, cheetah, gemsbok, springbok & hartebeest can be seen often in areas in close proximity to many of the waterholes within the park. Ongava also boasts both a resident white & black rhino population.

Namibia's Skeleton Coast is one of the most spectacularly beautiful, but inhospitable places on our planet & yet it plays host to one of the finest safaris imaginable.

Over much of this past decade the access to this private area within the Skeleton Coast National Park has been inhibited.

However, in April of 2000, a six (6) luxury tented camp was permitted & opened, offering international guests either four (4) or five (5) day fly-in-out safaris to this incredible area, with the guarantee of departures from Windhoek or Walvis Bay every Wednesday & Saturday.

Some 300000 hectares of the Skeleton Coast National Park has been set aside for exclusive safari experiences for those who want to really get into wild, desolate & virtually uninhabited, stunningly beautiful natural terrain.

Skeleton Coast Camp is a six (6) luxury tented boutique wilderness camp – with a maximum 12 guests at any time, in the heart of Skeleton Coast Park within the private concession area. This is a unique location, having been built in the dry Khumib River, on an island, approx. 20km inland from the coastline.

Each of the luxury tents here is large & spacious, with an en-suite private bathroom. There is an old gnarled Leadwood tree that provides shelter from the elements & makes for a shady dining room for our outdoor meals.

Because of the vastness of the terrain most all safari activities are undertaken in 4x4 vehicles that are closed to the elements. All vehicles have pop-top roofs & sliding windows to enjoy the fine weather.

Safari activities include either full-day game & nature drives or walks, hosted by an armed professional field guide. On these full day excursions, guests take a picnic lunch, as they will be returning to camp in the evening,

For those who prefer, there are half day safari nature drives & bush walks returning to camp for lunch & if guests choose, venturing out again in the afternoon.  On game walks one must be mindful of the heat of the day & ensure they have ample water on hand.

Safaris can & do include visits to Rocky Point,  the roaring dunes, lichen fields, Himba villages, the clay castles of the Hoarusib River,  seal colonies, shipwreck sites & secret water seeps that attract wildlife such as desert oryx, springbok, giraffe, ostrich, brown hyaena, jackal s & other smaller mammals.

Walking also plays a part in these activities, as due to the pristine nature of this eco-environment many areas are accessible solely on foot, as vehicle tracks can damage the environment. Many specially adapted species of plants like lithops & welwitschia can be viewed on the guided bush nature walks.

The Skeleton Coast terrain is rugged & the environment particularly harsh, hence this camp will be enjoyed by those guests who come without pretense & who are looking for a true wilderness experience in & amongst some of the most spectacular scenery in all of southern Africa.

Desert Rhino Camp is a Wilderness Safaris operated safari destination, located within the 300000 hectares of private Palmwag Reserve, in northwest Namibia, between Etosha National Park & the Skeleton Coast.

It was set-up as a joint venture between Wilderness Safaris & the Save the Rhino Trust` which is a non-profit conservation organization that has  been singly responsible for helping to ensure that in this region where rare, desert black rhino have managed to  adapt, they continue to survive the slaughter that has continued to haunt both black & white rhino populations other parts of Africa.

This stunning desert reserve has a number of life-giving fresh water springs that support healthy populations of mammals including desert adapted black rhino & desert elephants. In addition there are fairly large populations of the rare Hartmann's mountain zebra, giraffe, regal oryx, springbok & some kudu.

This is one of those few places on our planet which delivers a level of privacy & wilderness experience supreme.

The predator population in this region is the largest outside of the Etosha National Park; there are prides of lions, cheetah, leopard, both the brown & spotted hyaena & as well, bird species – both indigenous & migratory - are prolific & diverse.

Desert Rhino Camp has eight (8) spacious East African-styled ´Meru´ tents each with a private en-suite bathroom that has a hand basin, flush toilet & a classic ´bucket´ shower that when filled, delivers deluges of hot water whenever needed.

Welwitschia (ancient desert adapted plants) plants dot the plain in front of the camp onto which the main guest dining room offers uninterrupted views of the desert & mountains.

The primary safari activity is black rhino tracking which is usually undertaken in 4x4 safari vehicles until a sighting is made by the specialist trackers & then guests & their field guide will proceed on foot. Full day outings include a picnic lunch.

Today this population of black rhino is growing slowly but steadily in numbers & the area boasts the largest concentration of black rhino anywhere on the planet outside of a National Conservation Reserve, or National Park.

Community game scouts, who were employed by the Trust initially to provide an anti-poaching patrol, nowadays are now seconded to the camp as trackers & field guides.

Most all guests of Desert Rhino Camp are gratified to know that a portion of the camps´ generated revenue goes directly to fund the Trust.
